50 years of Cabauw

Save the date: celebration of 50 years of Cabauw

The 213-metre-high measuring mast in Cabauw was taken into use in 1972. Since then, much data has been collected and groundbreaking research has been conducted into the relationships between the state of the atmospheric boundary layer, land surface characteristics, greenhouse gas emissions, and the general weather situation. Since 1972, the measuring instrumentation has been expanded considerably in collaboration with various institutes and Cabauw is now the central backbone station in the Ruisdael Observatory, the national consortium for atmospheric research.

Cabauw’s 50th anniversary was in 2022. Due to the after-effects of the corona pandemic and maintenance, the celebration of 50 years Cabauw has been postponed to 2023. Please save the date for this event: Friday, September 29, 2023  – location:  the measuring mast in Cabauw in Lopik.

On this day we will reflect on the developments that have taken place over the past 50 years  in a festive setting. Information about registration and the program will follow in due course.
